INTRODUCING TORIRU - "KEEP YOUR WAVE ALIVE"

Introducing Toriru clothing, scrolling through Instagram I'm always discovering the coolest independent fashion brands that deserve way more recognition than they already get. I think it's so important for young creatives to be noticed and showcase their creativity and talents to the world. We see the birth of new fashion brands often, however for young designers the market is extremely tough and I really think it's time for young creatives to get noticed. Unless you know someone in industry or have a large following, it is really hard for you to get noticed these days, it does kind of suck. There's so much talent out there that deserves to be seen.

I recently came across Toriru clothing and first glance I loved what I saw, no hesitation I hit that follow button! I was feeling major Japanese vibes with their bold prints and striking colours. Intuiged about the brand, I came to find out the person behind it all is 22 year old Terrance Lindsey From Kansas City, find out more and check out the interview with the man himself!

VogueWonders: Who are you and what do you do?

Terry: My name is Terry, i’m 22 years old and i’m from Kansas City , MO and the CEO of Toriru clothing brand.

VogueWonders: ow did you start your brand Toriru , what was the inspiration behind it ?

Terry: When I was 18 I started off cutting jeans , tie dying shirts and sewing. When I was 19 I decided I wanted to start my own clothing brand but financially wise I couldn't start it but deep down I wanted bring a different style to my city. When I was 20 I was more inspired by the top urban clothing brands and that inspired me to fulfill my dream of having my own clothing brand.

VogueWonders: Why did you choose to start up a fashion brand?

Terry: Because it was always my dream to have my own clothing brand.

VogueWonders: why do you think it's important for young designers like yourself to build new brands like this?

Terry: Because I think every generation has its own style and it’s up to our generation to bring a new wave .

VogueWonders: How has social media worked for you ?

Terry: Social media really helped my brand out as far as reaching new cities and clients. As well as a couple of upcoming celebrities collabs and supporters.

VogueWonders: What do you want to change in the current fashion market?

Terry: want to change the look and also the feel of fashion. I want to bring something that’s dope , lit and different . Something the people will love.

VogueWonders: What makes Toriru different from other brands out there ?

Terry: My name alone is different from other brands , my style is different and not to many people do anti mays.

VogueWonders: How did you come up with the name Toriru?

Terry: he name Toriru is Trill in Japanese. A Lot of people in my city and on social media knew me as Trill so me and my homeboy Casper took the time to do research and discovered Toriou.

VogueWonders: Do you classify yourself as a fashion designer?

Terry: Yes and No . Yes because I can come up with my own twist and style of things when a client wants something different than I already released. No because I try to stick to the basic releases.

VogueWonders: Are there any fashion brands you would like to collaborate with ?

Terry: Yes , I actually have a couple collabs here in Kansas City with YungLife, Brwssaddicition and a few more. I do want to do multiple celebrity collabs with FOG ( Fear Of God) , OBEY , Thrasher and last but not least Supreme. Pretty much the clothing brands that motivate me and molded my brand into the brand it is today .

VogueWonders: Where do you see yourself in the next 3 years to come ?

Terry: see myself in the next 3 years worldwide and still doing what I love which is making my brand better each day.

VogueWonders: Is it any advice you’d give to young people right now trying to start a fashion brand?

Terry: You are your biggest supporter , if you don’t believe in yourself your brand won’t grow. Keep grinding and keep pushing until you get to the top .

I am Terry CEO of Toriru clothing brand and this concludes my interview with Vogue Wonders . And always remember keep your wave alive .

COSY FITS X DAYS BEFORE

Hey guys, I'm back on the blog. I've been away working on a few things and can't wait to show you some new content. To get things started for the first post of the year, I recently caught up with fashion designer Saxton Taylor, Who's recently launched his own brand Days Before. Check out my interview with him below!

VogueWonders: Who are you and what do you do?

Day Before: Hey I’m Saxton Taylor, I’m 21 years old and I’m a fashion designer from Kansas City MO

VogueWonders: When did you start getting into fashion?

Days Before: I wasn’t really into Fashion until my twin introduced me, I’ve been into it since early 2000’s. Fashion has always been there especially at High School. I got a few compliments, many people said to me back in High School that I was influential in school and fashion, it made me feel good with what I was doing and the brand.

VogueWonders: What Inspired you to start Days Before?

Days Before: Well, back in school I never knew what I wanted to do, but then one day someone came up to me and asked me “Don’t you want to start a brand?” So, I thought about it and I went to college the Art Institution of Hollywood, man I loved it there, people motivated me and it made me want to just carry on! I progressed from there onwards.

VogueWonders: So, when was the brand officially established and how did you come up with the name ‘Days Before’?

Days Before: I Officially started in 2015 but my first official release was mid-2016. The name is Days Before I came up with it when working on project in school. I was reading a booking and so many combinations of before and days kept coming up so I switched it and wrote ‘Days Before’ …Since then I just kept the name.

VogueWonders: Who are the main inspirations behind the brand?

Days Before: My main inspirations are people like Kanye West, Vivienne Westwood because they all represent a Rockstar in their modern eras. They all present something great, they’re just great…They keep me going that’s the kind of level I want to be at, I inspire people too.

VogueWonders: What’s the aim, where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Days Before: To be an established fashion designer, to be something that is highly regarded as Balenciaga. I really want to push forward.

VogueWonders: How long has it taken you to get a product out at full confidence?

Days Before: I didn’t want to release a product until I had a full collection, I wanted to see how far I could get or see if people were really interested in what I was doing, it’s going to be more than one piece and more to choose from. I believe more attention will be bought to my brand.

VogueWonders: Are there any collaborations within the Fashion world you would like to see happen?

Days Before: After Supreme X Louis Vuitton, man that was historical. I’d like to see Dior and Gucci, bringing a street brand with a high end, ideas are endless. The Louis collaboration was amazing to me…Just how two worlds collide and create one piece, that was beyond real.

VogueWonders: Finally, for anyone out there starting a brand, what’s the best advice you can give?

Days Before: The best advice I believe is to never go with the first idea, my first idea for a silhouette was terrible, beyond terrible and I even had a friend say it. It was constructive criticism and he knew that I could do better. I went out and tried my best to create more. You want to make sure that everything you create is top of the line. My first idea was so terrible it made me want to be more successful, destroy all previous imagination to create new work.

Hey guys, I'm back! After taking a 2 month break out of blogging, I have a lot of things lined up, VogueWonders is changing! For the past few weeks I have been working on new ideas and changing the theme of this blog. I will slowly be moving to a fully menswear/unisex blog, also touching down on the music scene in which you can view by clicking on the 'discover' tab!

To start off this new venture, here's a collaboration with &BLANC, an independent Nottingham based brand.

&BLANC stock a range of fashion brands such as Alpha IndustriesÉtudesHan KjøbenhavnHappy SocksKarim MaherLibertine - Libertine, and Wood Wood.  In this collab I'm wearing a gorgeous Denim Jacket by Han Kjøbenhavn.

This is an absolute staple piece for your wardrobe, the details and quality on the jacket is amazing featuring a removable Velcro white 'V' detailing, branded button fasting, and not to mention the cut on this is perfect, fitting to your body shape.

I simply styled this with Dr Martens; Denim and Cherry Dr Martens is always a winner, such a good combo, I chose to layer this by wearing a white net vest top and an oversized a longline grey shirt from ZARA. This was completed with straight leg trousers also from ZARA.

Check out &BlANC over on Instagram @andblancfashion/ and their online store at https://andblancfashion.com/

If you’re around Nottingham, visiting the store is a must!

Who says girls can't wear suits?

Another blog post, another collaboration, I couldn't be more grateful!

The lovely team at Bright Light PR sent me the most gorgeous pair of Marco Tozzi shoes, these fit perfectly with any smart outfit. I have to say this has to be one of my favourite collaborations!

Marco Tozzi have just launched their AW16 collection and their new styles are a must have. With such a range to chose from, such as trainers, brogues, heels and more, they are the perfect shoe brand to get you geared up for the new season.

I chose to style the shoes by wearing a suit, featuring a blazer and shirt from ZARA, and men's cropped suit trousers from New Look. To accessorize I played it safe and simply wore a choker from Topshop and carried a man bag which is the perfect size to fit all your essentials when you're on the go!

You can check out Marco Tozzi’s collection at www.marcotozzi .com and follow their page on Instagram @marco_tozzi_official to keep up with any updates!

Touchdown Londoooooooon!

I try my best to visit London as often as I can, however living up north and over 3 hours away has its down sides!

Nevertheless I was in London not long ago and enjoyed my time there, managed to meet the beaut Niga Ghafur (yes internet friends are real) ... also not to mention I was there on the best 3 days, the weather was just perfect!

Walking around Oxford Street, it was super busy and absolutely boiling. However no matter how warm it is, I always think it's important to carry a jacket around, we really can't predict this British weather.

Double denim was actually an unintentional one, I literally picked up the first jacket I saw and walked out the hotel room, it took me a while to realize, but I was pleased with myself because I don't think it looked too bad haha!

This combo features a denim jacket by JALC and distressed denim trousers by ZARA, paired with a simple white tee and black heeled boots from Topshop!

Check out JALC by following their Instagram page at: @jalcstudios

ASOS X NIKE CORTEZ | VOGUEWONDERS

I'm super excited to be featuring my first ever collaboration with ASOS on the blog. Since starting the blog two years ago, I never would have imagined working with such a huge and highly respected brand. I'm so grateful!

In a new campaign, i was lucky enough to be selected for the ASOS X NIKE Cortez project in which I was gifted with the coolest old school Nike trainers! I styled them with a Puma sweatshirt, regular black skinny jeans and a mandarin collar shirt by La Moda, from ASOS.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the blog so far. It means a lot!

CASUAL WINTER

Long leather coats are the one, especially when it's vintage. Passed down from my aunt, this was a big hit in the 90's during her college days. The leather jacket is perfect with this outfit and a great winter piece!

In this post I am extremely excited to be collaborating with two amazing brands, both of who I am a huge fan of, Schuh and Bellfield!

Wearing a chunky grey knitted jumper from Bellfied, I paired it with a long sleeve burgundy check shirt also from Bellfield. There were many different ways I could have styled this, for example, wearing the shirt under the jumper or even on top, however I wanted to keep this look super casual and not smarten it up too much!

Continuing to keep it simple, I matched the jumper and shirt with regular black skinny jeans from New Look and a long brown leather coat.  To complete the look I finished with the most gorgeous black Chelsea boots from Schuh.

I have literally been after pointy shiny Chelsea boots for so long, and now I finally have them thanks to Schuh! This was a #GiftingSorted Christmas present from them, putting the biggest smile on my face; the PR's are the sweetest people ever!

Be sure to check out Bellfied at http://www.bellfieldclothing.com/ where they have a range of beautiful winter knits and coats. You can also follow them at @bellfieldclo to keep up with any new updates.

To purchase the Dare Black Chelsea boots visit http://www.schuh.co.uk/womens/schuh-dare-black-boots/1438087080/ - these boots are to die for, it's a purchase you will not regret. Promise

Thank you

Mink & Stone Collaboration

This week I had an amazing opportunity to collaborate with Mink & Stone. If you haven't already heard of this brand they are a London based jewellery manufacturer and retail brand that allows people to design their own jewellery online.

I created a Swarovski Glass Pearl Bracelet consisting of glass beads, metal beads and acrylic, in which I finished with a silver colour lobster clasp. I kept my colour palette & the size of my bracelet very simple. I don't usually wear chunky bracelets, so from the start I knew I wanted to create something small.

I chose to add my initial 'A' because I wanted something that represented me. The good thing about this design is that it can be easily styled with anything in my wardrobe!

I found that the site is very easy to use, you can choose what you want to design from a range of different necklaces to bracelets. I love my piece, it's exactly how I imagined it. It's such a great feeling to see your own design in person!

I'm glad to have discovered Mink & Stone and collaborated with them, their brand is amazing. The whole idea of making your own unique jewellery from scratch is really cool. There is such a range of materials to chose from, everything that you need will be there!

Why not check Mink&Stone out at www.minkandstone.com or even purchase my design by clicking the following link http://www.minkandstone.com/Products/Details/1130?utm_content=buffer0eb55&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

SPLASH OF COLOUR

I'm so excited to be collaborating with my favs, Whistle Blower clothing. I have been following their brand for a while now and I'm a huge fan of what they do

To be honest I'm not a person that usually goes for bright colours, but the melon short sleeve mesh jumper from Whistle Blower's AW15' collection is perfect for the upcoming season. It's stylish, warm, comfortable and very different. This can be styled however you want. I chose to wear a collarless shirt from ASOS underneath the jumper adding a white effect; I paired this with black baggy pants from ZARA and white Moorgate brogues from ASOS. Finally to accessorise I carried a white satchel with black detail from Topshop.

This look really didn't need further accessories or additions. The jumper itself is a statement piece. I also wanted to keep the colour palette very simple (White, yellow and black) as I didn't want anything to look too over the top.

What I love about the jumper is that the quality is absolutely amazing! Like it's not a typical normal jumper, it's a lot more than that. It feels so rich and good. You can tell the fabric is long lasting & the jumper won't wear out easily

So why not grab it now as it has just reduced from £45 to £15! There's a huge sale on at the moment, go check it out at  http://www.whistleblowerclothing.co.uk/shop/ and shop their new collection which includes the melon short sleeve jumper available in grey & a range of beautiful bomber jackets & tee's.

You can also follow Whistle Blower on Twitter @whistleblowercl & Instagram @whistleblowerclothing to keep up to date with any new releases

Have a lovely week!
